Frequently Asked Questions
What is Bionic Fixation Reading and how does it help?
Bionic reading applies saccadic optical bolding to the first few characters of each word. Your eyes are naturally drawn to the bold anchors, and your brain's language processing centers automatically complete the word. This minimizes saccadic eye strain, prevents line skimming, and dramatically improves comprehension speed for ADHD and dyslexic readers.
How does the Focus Ruler work?
The Focus Ruler creates an illuminated reading bar that tracks your mouse cursor across the page while subtly dimming the rest of the text above and below. This eliminates peripheral visual clutter and prevents accidental line skipping when reading long research articles, code repositories, or textbooks. You can customize the ruler's height, opacity, and tint color anytime in the extension popup.
Why does LucidRead request host permissions (http://*/*, https://*/*)?
Host permissions are strictly required so that LucidRead's visual accessibility tools (Bionic Fixation bolding, the Focus Ruler, Dyslexia typography replacements, and Sensory Tints) can function seamlessly across whichever websites or documents you choose to read.
Zero browsing data is collected: LucidRead never inspects, uploads, or logs the URLs you visit. All visual styling is applied strictly in your browser's local memory on the active tab.
Is any of my browsing data or article text sent to external servers?
No, absolutely not. LucidRead operates under a strict local-first privacy policy. Zero bytes of article text, browsing history, keystrokes, or search queries ever leave your machine. The extension contains no analytics trackers, no ad beacons, and no telemetry libraries.
How does Clean Reader Mode work?
Clean Reader Mode extracts the primary article headline and body text while stripping away distracting sidebars, auto-playing video popups, animated banner ads, and invasive cookie notices. It presents the content in a serene, distraction-free view formatted with your preferred neurodiverse font and spacing tokens.
